Tiffin has been named one of only five communities selected as an Ohio Magazine Best Hometown for 2026-2027, earning one of the state’s highest honors for communities that exemplify outstanding community spirit, education, entertainment, health and safety, business environment, and culture and heritage.

Each year, Ohio Magazine recognizes communities that reflect the very best of Ohio following nominations, editorial research, and visits to finalist communities across the state. Editors selected Tiffin in part for its college-town atmosphere, historic downtown, and community events that bring residents together. Tiffin will be featured in the November/December 2026 and July/August 2027 issues of the magazine.

“This is an incredible honor for our community,” said Tiffin Mayor Lee Wilkinson. “This recognition belongs to everyone who helps make Tiffin such a special place. Our residents, businesses, educators, volunteers, nonprofit organizations, and community partners have created a city where people want to live, work, raise a family, and invest. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together and excited about what lies ahead.”

The recognition reflects more than Tiffin’s historic charm. It recognizes a community that continues to invest in its future.

In recent years, Tiffin has experienced significant momentum through continued downtown revitalization, economic development, educational investment, housing growth, recreation, and quality of life improvements. In 2026, the Tiffin-Seneca County Micropolitan Area ranked fifth in the nation for economic development projects, while ongoing redevelopment projects, new business investment, and expanded educational opportunities continue to strengthen the community.

Downtown Tiffin remains the heart of the community, with restored historic buildings, thriving locally owned businesses, year-round events, and major redevelopment projects such as the boutique hotel and East Tower helping shape the city’s future. At the same time, Heidelberg University and Tiffin University continue to invest in new facilities and programs, reinforcing Tiffin’s reputation as one of Ohio’s leading education communities.

Throughout the year, residents and visitors gather for Third Thursdays, performances at The Ritz Theatre, the Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market, seasonal festivals, outdoor recreation, and countless community events that continue to strengthen Tiffin’s sense of place.

“Receiving this recognition is an honor not only for the City of Tiffin, but for all of Seneca County,” said Seneca County Board of Commissioners President Bill Frankart. “Communities earn recognition like this because people are willing to work together. The partnerships between our local governments, schools, universities, businesses, manufacturers, nonprofit organizations, and volunteers have created real momentum. This recognition reflects the dedication of everyone who continues investing in the future of our community.”

Ohio Magazine established the Best Hometowns program in 2006 to recognize communities that embody the values that make Ohio a great place to live. Communities are selected following editorial research and visits before being evaluated on community spirit, education, entertainment, health and safety, business environment, and culture and heritage.
